Athletes and Pets

Sports Illustrated for Kids had a great little feature on Athletes and their pets.

Here are some highlights...

VISANTHE SHIANCOE
"I'll turn around for a second and there will be a big bang and a trash can will be knocked over," Shiancoe tells SI Kids of his boisterous ferrets, Smoke and Gee. Despite their rowdiness, Shiancoe is thinking of taking them on the road when he travels.

PATRICK DENEEN
When freestyle skier Patrick Deneen isn't careening down a moguls course, he's living it up on his horse-and-hay farm with miniature donkeys, a donkey named Mr. Don Key, 26 horses and just for good measure, a few dogs.

ERNIE SIMS
You might think pro football player Ernie Sims is posing inside of a pet store, but that's his house. "My parents know not to take me to a pet store," Sims tells SI Kids. "Because if I go to a pet store, I have to get something."

TULLY BEVILAQUA
WNBA player Tully Bevilaqua uses her time off from work to help homeless dogs, volunteering for the Humane Society of Indianapolis. She also is mom to rescue dogs Chips, Aussie and a pet cat.

ROSS OHLENDORF
The Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher has a cow named Marina on his family's longhorn cattle farm, and Marina has been around for 15 years. Among Ohlendorf's many tasks on the farm? Naming the calves.

You can see the whole feature here.

Best and Worst

OK, So SI had a whole bunch of "10 best and worst" articles on the NFL for this decade...

Seems they don't think anything memorable is going to happen over the next 3 weeks?

Sheeesh....

Would you say Belichick was the BEST coach of the past decade?

Or that Priest Holmes was the best free agent pickup of the decade?

If that were the case then there would be absolutely no reason to even bother picking upsets each week....

So here we go again with my fabulously accurate predictions...

Hopefully I can do better than last week.

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cleveland Browns = STEELERS

Carolina Panthers @ New England Patriots = PANTHERS

Cincinnati Bengals @ Minnesota Vikings = BENGALS

New York Jets @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers = JETS

Seattle Seahawks @ Houston Texans = SEAHAWKS

Buffalo Bills @ Kansas City Chiefs = CHIEFS

New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons = SAINTS

Green Bay Packers @ Chicago Bears = PACKERS

Miami Dolphins @ Jacksonville Jaguars = JAGS

Denver Broncos @ Indianapolis Colts = COLTS

Detroit Lions @ Baltimore Ravens = RAVENS

St. Louis Rams @ Tennessee Titans = TITANS

Washington Redskins @ Oakland Raiders = REDSKINS

San Diego Chargers @ Dallas Cowboys = CHARGERS

Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Giants = EAGLES

Arizona Cardinals @ San Francisco 49ers = CARDINALS

Get a Real Dog...

OK, so there is a running joke in our household regarding "get a real dog".
I usually bring this topic up when other folks start watching all the dog competition shows on TV.

Well, since this week seemed to be dominated with dog photos and TV listings from various dog shows, I thought I would post a short compilation...

Welcome to the first episode of....

Real Dog or Not.
