As a die hard, true blood, Redskin fan it pains me to post this about going to Dallas Stadium.
But this is truly about a great cause and this could be an opportunity to have some fun or at least make a tidy profit and contribute to a good cause all at the same time.
The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT) is holding a raffle for six tickets to the Thanksgiving Day Game at Dallas Stadium vs the World Champion Saints.
For $5 dollars you could win 6 club level access seats on the 50 yard line with all the amenities.
So, here are the possibilities for only spending $5 dollars.
A) You loose donate five bucks to a charity. B) You win 6 club level seats to the Thanksgiving Day Dallas vs Saints game. C) You go to the game and get drunk enjoy it as much as possible. D) You sell the tickets for a tidy profit E) You go to the game, sneak out onto the field with a football and take a shot at Sir Jerry’s big screens!
Personally, I think the benefits outweigh the negatives.
On Friday night, the Saints' staff at the combine gathered in a private room at St. Elmo Steakhouse, an 108-year-old Indy landmark, for a final celebratory nod to the Super Bowl win over the Colts. This is a group that likes its wine, and likes to have fun.
At the restaurant, word passed that Dallas owner Jerry Jones would have his Dallas group in this exact room Saturday night for a team dinner. Jones had even phoned ahead, according to a waiter, to make sure a magnum of a wine he loved, Caymus Special Selection cabernet sauvignon, was ready to be served at dinner.
Sean Payton told the waiter he'd like to have that wine, too. The waiter told him: Sorry, sir. We have only one bottle left, and it's reserved for Mr. Jones.
Payton said he'd like to have the bottle nonetheless. I assume there was much angst on the part of the wait staff at that point. My God! Who do we piss off? One of the most powerful owners in the NFL, or the coach who's the toast of the NFL, the coach who just won the Super Bowl?
Here came the bottle of Caymus Special Selection, and the Saints' party drained it.
But drinking Jones' wine wasn't enough. Payton gave the waiter some instructions, took out his pen ... and, well, the Cowboys party found at the middle of their table the next evening an empty magnum of Caymus Special Selection cabernet sauvignon, with these words hand-written on the fancy label:
The Colts will ultimately prevail winning the actual game. After all, they have proven more than once that they only need 15 minutes to beat anybody.
I give the Saints 30 minutes of life. Tops.
The Colts, just like Gilbert Arenas, have too many weapons... And the biggest and best is Peyton.
But, with all the hype I've seen and heard on the Internet about "Who Dat" and rights, and royalty, and Money, I believe that the Saints fans alone will solely responsible for setting a new revenue record.
The record for "Ad Revenue" (selling advertising slots) is approximately $206 million. Judging by the fact that the networks have had to lower their prices this year, I doubt that will happen.
However, I believe, the $125 million merchandise record is in jeopardy. You see, its not just the "Super Bowl" label, it is the aints New Orleans Saints going to the Super Bowl. Now we are not only talking, and buying, super bowl memorabilia, we are buying collector items.
A quick look on Ebay (EBAY)for "New Orleans Saints" produces over 20,000 items. Amazon (AMZN) had nearly 14,000.
And this of course does not take count all the official NFL stores, and pop-up merchandise stands now populating the great state of Florida.
Who knows when this will happen again.
So enjoy it, buy the collector items now before the Super Bowl, because they will not be worth quite as much this coming Monday morning.
But hey, I've been wrong before, and if by some miraculous chance the Saints do pull this off, the prices and sales will go through the roof and all you true Saints fans better keep an extra collector item or two safely sealed inside the original wrapping.
But most importantly, turn on the game and enjoy the entertainment. If anybody can give the Colts and Peyton a run for their money, it is the defensive genius of Gregg Williams.
And don't worry about the game being a dud, we all know that the super bowl brings out some of the more creative ads from various companies such as these two finalist clips from Doritos. So grab your drinks, food, and even some good friends, turn on the TV this Super Bowl Sunday and Enjoy!
To the rumors that Fox Sports, has contacted me regarding the use of my blog name and their commentary regarding the NFC title game.
Absolutely no truth...
to the rumor that any of the purple pride or vikings mania organizations have contacted me either regarding their protest the current state of Brett Favre's contract.
Or that the Vikings organization is looking to pro-rate Bretts contract...
Or that I have been asked to change my background colors to purple and gold...
Absolutely no truth...
to the rumor that said Brett Favre is teaming up with Prince to write a new theme song... (combination purple and gold and pants on the ground called ball on the ground) with special guest appearances from MC Hammer (can't touch this), 38 Special (hang on loosely), and Simon and Garfunkel (slip sliding away).
Absolutely no truth...
to the rumor that ESPN has removed AP, Brett and Reggie from their fantasy football no cut lists...
Absolutely no truth...
to the rumor that I am holding out for sponsorship of Reggie Bush, who really did fumble a return and can't seem to hold on to anything off the field either...
What IS TRUE...
is the FACT that London Fletcher IS going to the Pro Bowl because the Saints and middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma are going to the Super Bowl.
The game was so "gut-wrenching" for Fletcher that he actually turned off the TV when the game was tied at 28-28 in the fourth quarter.
Couldn’t watch it.
“Watching the Saints vs. Vikings game was something that I could not get comfortable with,” Fletcher admitted.
Turns out it was equally as uncomfortable waiting in silence for the final score.
So he turned the TV back on.
It was overtime. Kicker Garrett Hartley, who beat the Redskins in Week 13 with a chip shot field goal, lined up a 40-yard game-winner for the Saints.
The kick sailed through the uprights.
“I did a little sprint around the house,” Fletcher said, laughing.
This is how much making the Pro Bowl meant to Fletcher.
What IS True...
is the fact that I will always bleed Burgundy and Gold.
Fletcher has not missed a game in his 12 year career. Is one of the most prolific tacklers in the entire NFL and is a true leader both on and off the field.
He is also one of the finalists for the Payton award; the award named for the late Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton, which goes annually to the player who combines on-field excellence with off-the-field community service.
Best of luck to you London. You deserve it.
Who knew that my blog name sake would be so appropriate for the NFC championship game?
Absolutely no truth...
To the rumor that said namesake is for sale at any price!
Yes folks, there is life outside of football. For all of you misguided football fans out there who are going to have your dreams crushed today, I present to you the world greatest hobby. Saturday (I would not miss football Sunday) the boys and I went to a trade show for model trains, cars and yes, even airplanes. Though the feature was clearly model trains.
William is actually looking at the subway section of one of the larger displays.
If you are interested, this is the longer version of video taken by us at the show...
Afterwards, we purchased some great yet inexpensive toys to commemorate our outing.
We do not have a model train set that we can set up (not for lack of interest, but rather lack of space) so we purchased something else more immediately useful...
(ignore the short attention span neighbor kid talking about dinosaurs)
Good luck to all the NFL playoff football teams and fans playing today and remember...
There is life outside of football so take time to enjoy it.
San Diego's December hot streaks, as they always do, end in January.
Maybe they just need some pro bowl caliber players...
Oh wait, they already have at least one...
The Jets believe in Destiny.
Isn't it ironic that the team the colts fell down to at the end of the regular season and basically allowed entry into the playoffs is now their opponent for the conference championship.
No worries though. Indy has shown, more than once that they only need about 15 minutes of football to beat just about anybody.
Apparently this fan did not get the uniformity memo.
Something tells me that this is not a Dan Snyder franchise or stadium event.... Hmmmm....
The Saints Smothered the Cardinals.
Fantasy Football fans everywhere are pulling their hair out wondering why Reggie Bush couldn't play like that during the regular season.
If he keeps attacking the line and lanes like that, he just might be a worthy fantasy pick next year.
And it only took Brees 3 quarters of real QB playing time to achieve what most QB only dream about.
He basically just handed the ball off during most of the 4th quarter...
And the Vikings (always the Fashion Divas)
spanked the Cowboys (who also end tend to end winning streaks in winter)
Wow! I was behind in 2 of my 3 leagues going into last nights Monday Night Football Game.
In my Commished league, Santa's Little Helpers had the Saints D going up against the Falcon's QB. 3 interceptions and a defensive touchdown wiped out his lead and we actually ended up in a tie. Too bad for the other guy though, because I won the tie breaker rules and actually got credited with a win! AND... not only did we tie, but we both got top score for the league this week (by 1 point) so we both get to split the prize for this week!
The Pariah's, who are now much stronger than they were due to other people in the league trying to raid the lowly bottom feeder with trades, has now won 2 in a row. Watch out guys, the season ain't over yet!
The Weekend Warriors finally got a break. I was a couple points behind but Tony Gonzalez and Devery Henderson did better than Michael Bush and I ended up pulling out a win!
Add to this that the Redskins did not lose, and I am a happy man!
Back in the Saddle once again.
