This week we saw -

Pike called up from the nether worlds to take command beside his highly effective offensive line and teammates.

BTW – That would be Tony Pike of the Carolina Panthers. Not Captain Pike of Star Trek but hey, I could not resist.

The Panthers burned through Matt Moore and Jimmy Clausen and finally called Pike to get him some playing time because , well, just because.

With seemingly ever star name either out or on the bench, this team is really hurting.

But honestly, I can’t decide who is hurting more. Panthers, Bills or Cowboys.

The Bills proved that they stink no matter what country they are in.

They Cowboys proved that there is no low too low for them to go this year.
















If I were Jason Garrett, and thank god I’m not, I’d be worried.

Hey Jason, here is a tip from a devoted Redskins fan. Keep calling up those wonderful passing plays!

And on a more positive note.

The Browns took it to Uncle Bill and the Pats! (I actually picked that one in my pickem league)























I know, everyone else was baffled too.

The Redskins didn’t lose.

And I am still winning the division in both my leagues thanks in part to my being able to (unbelievably) pick up Jacob Tamme off of waivers this week. If he is still available in yours, he is definitely worth a consideration.

AFL New England Patriots and Elton John...

At first glance, and viewing of the New England Patriots home page, you see a variety of relevant, sports and football related items such as:
- A special event featuring Hall of Famer Andre Tippett
- News and video of training camp and rookies and contract status
- 50th Anniversary
- Team blogs
- Tickets and promotions

All nice and clean and easily clickable.

So, why did I mention Elton John?

Well, if you click on the team blog link, you will find a story about the Billy Joel and Elton John concert recently held in the Boston area.

During his show with Billy Joel at Gillette Stadium Saturday night Elton John dedicated “Tiny Dancer” to Patriots Owner Robert Kraft and his wife Myra. A longtime friend of the Krafts, John (hey, kind of looks funny when you only use his second name!) also called the Patriots his team and said he’d be serving as New England’s honorary captain for its game Oct. 25 against the Bucs in London.

That should get the brits out to the game and give the networks plenty of topicality.

Clicking on the top display bar, or most of the other links, will get you past the initial splash screen web page and into the meat and potatoes of the site.

The 50th anniversary part of the site is different than any other teams which I have viewed to date.

They do not have a "all time" team page or pick you best player page.

Instead, they have a pick your all time greatest top 10 moments in Patriots History.



















One can even leave comments on the selections.

Pretty Cool!

There is also a section on commemorative license plates and if you want a "low" number jersey plate, you can go online and bid for you favorite Patriot number in an auction.








Proceeds go to the Patriots Charity Organization.








So with a good clean web page, relevant material, unique 50th anniversary pages and promotional products and, oh yeah, a decent retro uniform....











Two thumbs up to the New England Patriots.

The AFL Eight!

This season marks the 50th season for the eight original American Football League teams. As part of the celebration, the eight original AFL teams will wear historic uniforms during Legacy Games.

Over the course of the next week, I will be featuring something special on each team. But to kick things off, listed below are the legacy uniforms the NFL has come up with for each team.

Which one do you like the best?



Buffalo Bills 1965 AFL Championship season:
White helmet featuring a simple red buffalo.











Denver Broncos 1960 season:
Brown and yellow uniform; brown helmet.











Kansas City Chiefs (Dallas Texans) 1962 AFL Championship season:
Red and white uniform; red helmet featuring an outline of the state of Texas (played in Dallas 1960-62 before moving to Kansas City).











New England Patriots (Boston Patriots) 1963 divisional championship season:
White helmet featuring the original Patriot logo.












New York Jets (Titans of New York) 1961 season:
Gold and navy uniforms; navy helmet.











Oakland Raiders 1963 season: White (away) jersey features silver numbers outlined in black; silver helmet with original Raiders logo.











San Diego Chargers 1963 AFL Championship season:
White pants with yellow bolt down legs.











Tennessee Titans (Houston Oilers) 1960 season:
