Thursday was the date for our annual Youth Football Golf Tournament. You might remember last year my team took home the prize for highest score and last place! Last year we had a packed tournament with lots of teams. And even though we came in last place, we all had great fun.

This year, perhaps a sign of the times and the economy, there were only 8 teams. The low turnout was certainly not because of the weather. It was a delightfully cool sunny morning and just about the time it was starting to get hot, a cool front started approaching from the west and kept the skys cloudy. We finished the tournament in 4th place and 2 hours ahead of the approaching rain.

Golf wise, it was a bit frustrating, we had a bunch of real birdie opportunities but did not make any until well into the back 9. If we had, we probably could have been contenders for the top one or two spots. But, we had fun; and like they say, a bad day golfing sure beats a good day at the office.

As it so happened, the low turnout increased our chances in the raffles. My buddy James got a new Nike adjustable 5 wood, Steve got a cap and t-shirt, and I got 4 free rounds at Stoneleigh Golf Course.

I’ve never been there and can’t wait to try it out. Steve says it is a great course, loads of hills, lots of fun, has more blind shots than any course he has ever been on and requires good shot placement. Great, guess I should order that extra-large bag of bright orange golf balls early . . .













Now all I have to do is decide on when to go and who to bring along? But I have plenty of time, the certificate does not expire until December 2011.

An Easter Present

Looks like the ACC is the big winner of the Easter Bunny Presents this year.

First:

Maryland Point Guard Greivis Vasquez from the University of Maryland is the winner of the 2010 Bob Cousy Award.
Vasquez, a senior from Caracas, Venezuela, averaged 19.6 points per game for Maryland this season while recording 6.3 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game. He led Maryland to a 24-9 record, a share of the ACC regular-season title and an NCAA tournament berth. Vasquez is a Wooden Award Finalist, was named as the ACC’s Player of the Year, and was named to The Sporting News First-Team All-America.

Second:

Duke played an all around outstanding game to advance to the championship game against Butler. I just wish it was a different ACC team representing us, but hey, I'll take it.

How to Kill a Sport...

Increase the Championship Tournament to 96 teams.

If this past weekend has proven anything, the NCAA does NOT need to increase the tournament from 64 teams to 96.

Sure there will always be the handful of teams (and their fans) that could argue that such and such team should have made the field but these 64 truly do represent the best of the best.

Given the fact that a bottom seed has NEVER (even after this past weekends cliff hanger) beaten a top seed, what good would adding more do to the tournament except eliminate the chances of having some true "Cinderellas" make the sweet 16 or final 4.

96 teams would do nothing except let more bad teams in. And who needs to watch that?

Another Fantasy Dream...

A few weeks ago I read this article about someone who not only attended a poker tournament, but entered it in an effort to try and win!

Much like the world series of poker and the main event, it required $10K as an entry fee.

That's a lot of money!

And this is probably the reason why I will, sadly, never get a chance to fullfill this dream I have of one day playing in such a poker tournament.

The top prize in this tournament is $8.55 million !!!

That's a lot of money too !

So, as I was reading this article I read something totally facinating and enlightening...

I decided to do what many poker pros do -- get backing. I sought out friends and colleagues willing to put up $500 each. Through their loyalty and stupidity -- I mean, these are folks who would buy oceanfront property in southern Afghanistan...

If he could do this, why can't I?

And I will not even ask for $500 !

Anybody, Anywhere, Any Amount, even just $1 will help me on my quest, my wish, to one day fullfill my dream of entering the main event!

Or in other words, everyone could win approximately $850 dollars!

- That I will hold any and all money donated in a pool until the time that I have enough to enter the tournament.
- At which point I will enter in the next to be held world series of poker main event with every intent and goal of winning.
- Any winnings, will be divided up based upon your initial donation to the pool.
- In other words, if you donate $1 of the $10,000 entry fee, you get .0001 % back of the prize money won.
- If I die before entering into the main event, my oldest son Eric will enter and play as my delegate.
- I will keep a running tally of funds raised on this site for all to track!
